AZD1656 (AZD-1656) is a potent, selective and orally active glucokinase (GK) activator with EC50 of 57 and 72 nM for human and rat GK, respectively.
AZD1656 displays >100-fold versus hexokinase 1 and hexokinase2 in a pharmacology screening panel.
AZD1656 reduced plasma glucose levels in a dose-dependent fashion. with a rapid onset of action, in normo-glycaemic insulin resistant rats and diabetic mice.
