Abciximab (Abcixifiban; c7E3 Fab) is a monoclonal anti-glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor antibody antagonist, prevents platelet aggregation by blocking glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptors on their platelet's plasma membrane and inhibits fibrinogen binding. It exerts it`s action by steric hindrance of the receptor itself and prevents platelet aggregation and subsequent thrombus formation and blocking interaction of fibrinogen. It also inhibits vitronectin receptor which mediates both platelet coagulation as well as endothelial and vascular smooth muscle proliferation.
