Annamycin (Naxtarubicin) is a highly lipophilic anthracycline antibiotic that has been shown to circumvent MDR-1 both in vitro and in vivo, intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, thereby inhibiting DNA replication and repair as well as inhibiting RNA and protein synthesis.
