Apogossypol (NSC 736630) is a Bcl-2 family antagonist that binds to Bcl-XL, Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL with IC50 of 2.6, 2.8 and 3.69 uM, respectively.
Apogossypol induces apoptosis of tumor cell lines, inhibits the growth and proliferation of prostate cancer cells by downregulating Bcl‑2 protein expression and activating caspase‑3 and ‑8.
Apogossypol displays superior activity to gossypol in terms of reducing splenomegaly and reducing B-cell counts in spleens of Bcl-2-transgenic mice.
