COE2-2hexyl is a broad-spectrum antibacterial conjugated oligoelectrolyte (COE), does not evoke bacterial resistance, inhibits methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA, MT3302) with MIC of 1 ug/mL.
COE2-2hexyl effectively killed both S. Typhimurium 14028 (MIC=2 ug/mL) and CA-MRSA USA300 (MIC=1 ug/mL), with bactericidal activity kinetics similar to that of ciprofloxacin (CIP) treatment.
COE2-2hexyl effectively treated mice infected with multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria and was not prone to bacterial resistance.
COE2-2hexyl exhibited broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, showed low cytotoxicity in cultured mammalian cells.
