EMD638683 is a highly selective SGK1 inhibitor, inhibits SGK1-dependent phosphorylation of NDRG1 with IC50 of 3 uM in Hela cells. EMD638683 promotes radiation-induced suicidal death of colon tumor cells in vitro and decreases the number of colonic tumors following chemical carcinogenesis in vivo. EMD638683 abrogates the salt sensitivity of blood pressure in hyperinsulinism without appreciably affecting blood pressure in the absence of hyperinsulinism in mice.
