Econazole nitrate is an imidazole derivative broad-spectrum antifungal agent, inhibits lanosterol 14α-demethylase, a key enzyme in the ergosterol synthesis pathway, also is a Ca2+ channel antagonist, induces cytotoxicity in leukemia cells, induces p53-dependent apoptosis and decreases metastasis ability in gastric cancer cells.
