Exifone is a potent activator of the deacetylase activity of HDAC1, increases the rate of deacetylation by the enzyme with EC50 of 0.241 uM and EC1.5 value of 0.031 uM. Exifone treatment of human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neuronal cells leads to a measurable decrease in histone acetylation. Exifone treatment can provide neuroprotection in the context of human neurons derived from patient with tauopathy. Exifone is able to reduce DNA damage in vivo in an AD mouse model.
