Iboxamycin (IBX) is a broad-spectrum ribosome-binding antibiotic with potent activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria overcomes bacterial multidrug resistance.
Iboxamycin (IBX) displays activity against a strain of E. coli resistant to cephalosporin, fluoroquinolone, tetracycline and aminoglycoside antibiotics (MIC = 8 μg ml−1) Clinical strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae isalso highly susceptible (MIC = 0.125 μg ml−1) to Iboxamycin (IBX).
Iboxamycin (IBX) is non-haemolytic and non-toxic towards mammalian cells.
Iboxamycin (IBX) is orally bioavailable, safe and effective in treating both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections in mice.
