LAVR-289 is a novel acyclic nucleoside phosphonate that effectively inhibits viral replication by targeting a specific domain in the poxvirus DNA polymerase, exhibits antiviral activity against HCMV, vaccinia virus (VV) and HSV-1 (TK-) with EC50 of 21 nM, 50 nM and 8.5 nM respectively.

LAVR-289 is a novel acyclic nucleoside phosphonate that effectively inhibits viral replication by targeting a specific domain in the poxvirus DNA polymerase, exhibits antiviral activity against HCMV, vaccinia virus (VV) and HSV-1 (TK-) with EC50 of 21 nM, 50 nM and 8.5 nM respectively.
LAVR-289 inhibits VACV, CPXV, MPXV, and ASFV in vitro at nanomolar concentrations by acting at the replication stage and directly targeting the viral DNA polymerase.
LAVR-289 potent inhibits VZV wild-type (TK+) (EC50 0.0035 μM, SI 740) and for thymidine kinase VZV deficient strains (EC50 0.018 μM, SI 145), with a low morphological toxicity in cell culture at 100 μM.
LAVR-289 demonstrated protective efficacy in infected animals without toxicity.
