M109S is a small molecule protecting cells from mitochondria-dependent apoptosis wtih EC50 of 23.4 nM in iBax cells, directly interacts with Bax (Kd=153 nM, MST assay) and inhibits Bax activation.
M109S inhibits the conformational change and mitochondrial translocation of Bax.
M109S inhibits ABT-737-induced apoptosis both in Bax-only and Bak-only mouse embryonic fibroblasts.
M109S also inhibits apoptosis induced by staurosporine, etoposide, and obatoclax.
M109S decreases maximal mitochondrial oxygen consumption rate and reactive oxygen species production, whereas it increased glycolysis.
M109 is an orally bioactive cell death inhibitor penetrating blood-brain/retina-barrier.
M109S is a novel small molecule protecting cells from mitochondria-dependent apoptosis both in vitro and in vivo.
