Biological Activity

Naspm trihydrochloride is a selective antagonist of Ca2+-permeable AMPA receptors, blocks GluR2-lacking AMPARs, suppresses current responses induced by kainate in type II neurons with IC50 of 0.33 uM.
Naspm greatly reduces the late rise in intracellular free Zn(2+) in postischemic CA1 neurons and affords partial protection against ischemia-induced cell death, protects against ischemia-induced death of CA1 neurons in vivo.
Naspm selectively suppresses the inwardly rectifying and Ca(2+)-permeable AMPA receptors expressed in type II neurons, has no effect on AMPA receptors in type I neurons.
