Nucleozin is a small-molecule influenza A nucleoprotein (NP) inhibitor that triggers the aggregation of NP and inhibits its nuclear accumulation.
Nucleozin inhibits infection of MDCK cells by viruses influenza A/WSN/33, H3N2 (clinical isolate) and Vietnam/1194/04 (H5N1) with EC50 of 0.069 uM, 0.16 uM and 0.33 uM in PRA, respectively.
Nucleozin protects mice challenged with lethal doses of avian influenza A H5N1.
Nucleozin also targets cytoplasmic trafficking of viral ribonucleoprotein-Rab11 complexes in influenza A virus infection.
