Regacin is a potent, specific inhibitor of bacterial AraC-like virulence regulator RegA with IC50 of 1.7 uM.
Regacin does not inhibit the growth of C. rodentium and is not cytotoxic to mammalian cells.
Regacin (100 uM) inhibits the synthesis and secretion of virulence proteins in C. rodentium.
Regacin interferes with the binding of RegA to its DNA target.
Regacin (50 mg/kg, oral) suppresses C. rodentium virulence, and reduces intestinal colonization.
Regacin significantly inhibits the ability of RegA-related virulence regulatory proteins Rns and RegR to activate the transcription of their target promoters, but has little or no effect on the activity of AggR and ToxT.
