Biological Activity

Rubimaillin (Mollugin) is a naphthohydroquinone isolated from the Chinese medical plant Rubia cordifola, strongly suppresses the secretion of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) with IC50 of 2 ug/mL in human hepatoma Hep3B cells, selectively inhibits cholesteryl ester synthesis with IC50 of 18 uM.
Rubimaillin (Mollugin) inhibits acyl-CoA:cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT1) activity in ACAT1-expressing cells with IC50 of 80 uM.
Rubimaillin (Mollugin) inhibits macrophage ACAT activity in order to decrease cholesteryl ester (CE) synthesis, leading to a reduction in the number of lipid droplets.
Rubimaillin (Mollugin) inhibits the ACAT2 isozyme in ACAT2-expressing cells with IC50 of 22 uM.
Rubimaillin (Mollugin) exhibits antimutagenic activity, antitumor activity, antiviral activity, and inhibitory activity in arachidonic acid- and collagen-induced platelet aggregation.
