Senicapoc (ICA-17043) is a potent, selective Gardos channel (KCa3.1) blocker that blocks Ca(2+)-induced rubidium flux from human RBCs (IC50=11 nM) and inhibits RBC dehydration (IC50=10-50 nM).
Senicapoc (ICA-17043) shows greater potency and selectivity than Clotrimazole; increases RBC K(+) content and hematocrit (Hct), decreases corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) in a transgenic mouse model of sickle cell disease (SAD).
Senicapoc (ICA-17043) is orally active.
