UA49 is a small molecule inhibitor of plant voltage-dependent inward K+ channel KAT1, KAT2, promotes a decrease in the cytosolic K+ content in guard cells, conferring significant drought tolerance in Arabidopsis.
KAT1 (10 uM) inhibited inward K+ currents at the plasma membrane in whole-cell patch clamp recordings with Arabidopsis guard cell protoplasts.
KAT1 shows no directly affects Ca2+ permeable cation (ICa) channels.
KAT1 can promote stomatal closure and inhibit stomatal opening.
KAT1 induces stomatal closure and enhance drought stress tolerance, with no side effects compared with those observed with ABA.
KAT1 induce stomatal closure through a different mechanism from ABA, causes changes in the cytosolic Ca2+ concentration in guard cells via K+ inward channels.
