WEHI-9625 (WEHI9625) is a small molecule selectively binds to VDAC2 and promotes its ability to inhibits apoptosis (EC50=69 nM) driven by murine BAK, selectively blocks murine BAK-mediated apoptosis.
VDAC2, but not VDAC1 or VDAC3, is essential for WEHI-9625 and its analogs to block BAK-mediated apoptosis.
WEHI-9625 acts by enhancing the VDAC2-BAK interaction.
WEHI-9625 blocks apoptosis before mitochondrial damage, preserving cellular function and long-term clonogenic potential.
