AKBA is a bioactive boswellic acid found in frankincense and allosteric, specific inhibitor of methionine adenosyltransferase 2A (MAT2A) with MST Kd of 129 nM, shows anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
AKBA does not interact with MAT2B directly.
AKBA decreases level of S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) and SAM/SAH ratio, and reprogrammed one‑carbon metabolism in HaCaT cells.
AKBA inhibits proliferation of HaCaT cells with IC50 of 27.3 uM.
AKBA alleviates both CD18hypo and imiquimod-induced mouse models of psoriasis when applied systemically or topically.
AKBA inhibits the enzyme activity of methionine adenosine transferase 2A (MAT2A) and reprograms one-carbon metabolism in keratinocytes, which accounts for its repression of keratinocyte hyperproliferation.
AKBA moderately inhibits T helper 17 (Th17) cell differentiation.
