Biological Activity

Compstatin is a 13-residue cyclic peptide inhibitor of complement C3, specifically binds to C3 and inhibits complement activation by blocking C3 convertase-mediated cleavage of C3.
Compstatin effectively inhibits the generation of C3a and sC5b-9 and the binding of C3/ C3 fragments to the polymer surface.
Compstatin prolongs survival of ex vivo perfused pig xenografts.
