Corisin is a Staphylococcus pro-apoptotic peptide that induce apoptosis of lung epithelial cells, induces apoptosis of podocytes, keratinocytes, tubular epithelial cells, retinal, and intestinal cells, triggers acute exacerbation of pulmonary fibrosis.
Corisin shows no apoptotic activity on lung fibroblast, vascular endothelial cell or lymphocyte cell lines.
Anti-corisin antibody inhibits corisin-induced apoptosis.
Corisin exacerbates lung fibrosis in transforming growth factor β1 transgenic mice.
Corisin synergistically enhances the proapoptotic activity of transforming growth factor-β1 on podocytes.
Corisin interacts with human serum albumin, potentially enhancing its renal accumulation and pathological impact.
Corisin is a microbiota-derived effector that directly couples the collapse of epithelial proteostasis to multimechanistic cell-fate dysregulation and fibrotic remodeling.
