G6PD activator AG1 (AG1) is a specific, small molecule that increases the activity of the wild-type, Canton mutant (R459L, EC50=3 uM) and several other common glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) mutants.
AG1 displays no effect on the dimerization or activity of several other NAD- or NADP+-dependent dimeric or tetrameric enzymes, including 6PGD, GAPDH, ALDH2, and ALDH3A1.
AG1 attenuates ROS-induced pericardial edema in a G6PD-dependent manner in zebrafish, reduces hemolysis of human erythrocytes
