Galvestine-1 is a small molecule MGDG (monogalactosyldiacylglycerol) synthase inhibitor with IC50 of 10 uM by competing with diacylglycerol binding.
Galvestine-1 shows effect of root uptake, circulation in the xylem and mesophyll, inhibition of MGDs in vivo causing a reduction of MGDG content and impairment of chloroplast development in Arabidopsis thaliana.
Galvestine-1 is a unique tool to study lipid homeostasis in plants.
