Harmine (Telepathine, Banisterine, Leucoharmine) is a fluorescent harmala alkaloid occurs in a number of different plants, reversibly inhibits monoamine oxidase A (MAO-A) but not MAO-B, also inhibits multiple Twist1 functions.
Harmine targeted the TWIST1 pathway through its promotion of TWIST1 protein degradation.
Harmine inhibits single-cell dissemination, suppression of normal branching in 3D epithelial culture, and proliferation of oncogene driver-defined NSCLC cells (IC50=22 uM).
Harmine also shows DYRK1A inhibitory activity, induces β-cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo.
