A cholesterol depleting agent that shows antitumor activity both in vitro and in vivo; induces caspase-dependent apoptosis in PEL cells via cholesterol depletion from the plasma membrane; significantly potentiates the activity of doxorubicin used alone on both sensitive and multidrug-resistant cell lines, and enhances the susceptibility of human breast cancer cells to carboplatin and 5-FU.
