Miglustat hydrochloride (N-Butyldeoxynojirimycin, SC-48334, NB-DNJ, OGT-918) is an orally active and reversible inhibitor of glucosylceramide synthase (GCS, ceramide glucosyltransferase).
Miglustat inhibits glycolipid biosynthesis, has no effect on the maturation of N-linked oligosaccharides or on lysosomal glucocerebrosidase.
Miglustat is used primarily to treat type I Gaucher disease (GD1).
