Biological Activity
Ercanetide (NNZ-2591, NNZ 2591) is an analogue of endogenous diketopiperazine cyclo-glycyl-proline (cyclic GP), shows neuroprotective effect.
Central administration of NNZ 2591 reduced the extent of brain damage in the lateral cortex, the hippocampus and the striatum in hypoxic-ischemic injured rats.
NNZ-2591 significantly improved motor function after hypoxic-ischaemic brain injury in rats.
NNZ-2591 significantly enhanced the expression of doublecortin-positive neuroblasts in the sub-ventricular zone
NNZ-2591 also improves motor function in a rat model of Parkinson's disease.
