Purpurin is a potent, specific inhibitor of glutamate dehydrogenase 1 (GDH1/GLUD1) with Ki of 1.9 uM, inhibits cancer cell proliferation and tumor growth.
Purpurin specifically inhibits activity of GDH but not other NADPH-dependent enzymes such as 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD) and fumarate hydratase (FH) in vitro.
Purpurin exerts dose-dependently antidepressant-like effects on behavior and stress axis reactivity in adult male C57BL/6J mice.
