Striga germination modulator-3 (SGM-3) is a potent, selective germination inhibitor for Striga hermonthica, selectively binds to ShHTL7 and shows inhibitory activity against YLG hydrolysis by ShHTL7 with IC50 of 2.3 uM.
SGM-3 is a ShHTL7-selective competitive inhibitor, weakly inhibits ShHTL2 (IC50=14.6 uM) and has no activities for other ShHTLs (IC50>50 uM).
SGM-3 inhibits the Striga germination induced by SPL7 that selectively binds to ShHTL7.
SGM-3 also suppresses Striga germination even when induced by GR24 that can be perceived by multiple ShHTLs.
