Biological Activity
SMM-189 is a selective cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2) inverse agonist with Ki of 121.3 nM, 40-fold selective over CB1 receptor.
SMM-189 prevents the rat primary microglia-mediated inflammation and shows moderate neuroprotection against N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) receptor-mediated excitotoxicity in rat primary hippocampal cultures containing both neurons and glia.
SMM-189 (6 mg/kg, i.p., b.i.d.) prevented the seizure-induced cytokine surge in the brain, neuronal death, and behavioral impairments 24 h after status epilepticus (SE).
SMM-189 shows potential for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders and traumatic brain injury.
