Sodium danshensu (Sanshensu sodium, Salvianic acid A) is an orally active phenolic compound from Salvia miltiorrhiza within antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and pro-angiogenesis effects, can induce Nrf2/HO-1 activation and inhibition of NF-κB pathway, reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and upregulates antioxidant defense mechanism and inhibits intrinsic apoptotic pathway, also inhibits SARS-CoV-2 with EC50 of 0.97 uM, also directly inhibits calpain-2 (CAPN2).
