Biological Activity

Tazbentetol (SPG302) is a pegylated benzothiazole derivative and synaptic regenerative small molecule, targets the cytoskeleton and induces the formation of new glutamatergic synapses.
SPG302 administration ameliorates visual dysfunction, significantly improves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) function and conduction in db/db mice.
SPG302 administration preserves optic nerve myelination in db/db mice.
SPG302 administration preserved synapses in the retina of db/db mice.
SPG302 administration inhibits glial activation in the retina of db/db mice, inhibits apoptotic cell death in the retina.
SPG302 demonstrates therapeutic potential for inner retina protection and preservation of visual function in Diabetic retinal neuropathy (DRN).
SPG302 protects retinal ganglion cells and preserves visual function by preserving synaptic activity in a mouse model of glaucoma.
