UCB-9721 is a potent inhibitor of T. gondii MyoA (TgMyoA) with IC50 of 31 nM, a class XIV myosin motor of apicomplexan parasites, inhibits TgMyoA actin-activated ATPase activity.
UCB-9721 also inhibits TgMyoA motor function in an in vitro motility assay
UCB-9721 inhibits T. gondii parasite motility with IC50 of 0.139 uM, with no detectable toxicity towards mammalian cells.
UCB-9721 inhibits the growth of T. gondii in human foreskin fibroblasts (HFFs) with an IC50 of 2.488 uM.
UCB-9721 also inhibits the motility and/or growth of the related apicomplexan parasites Plasmodium falciparum, Cryptosporidium parvum, and Babesia duncani.
