Pterostilbene is a natural phenolic compound, dimethylated derivative of resveratrol that has potent antitumor activity against several human cancer types.
Pterostilbene induces strong and sustained activation of ERK1/2, with concomitant cyclin D1 suppression and p21 up-regulation, and inhibits the phosphorylation of AKT and mTOR in MDA-MB-468 cells.
Pterostilbene synergizes the antineoplastic effects of megestrol acetate in endometrial cancer.
Pterostilbene also targets MTA1/HDAC signaling with deacetylation of tumor suppressors p53 and PTEN in prostate cancer cells.
